The country's president, Vjosa Osmani, has said that at every meeting he has had with Kosovo allies, she has clarified that KFOR's mandate is only as a third reacter in support of the Kosovo Police as the first reacter.
The first state government said Kosovo institutions have asked for NATO's support that patrols in the border zone include NATO soldiers, alongside Kosovo police officers, in order to prevent the entry of terrorist groups from Serbia.
Kosovo's “Police have full mandates on the entire territory of Kosovo, while with NATO, there is close co-operation and co-ordination, as evidenced by the police operation's response during the terrorist attack on Banjska on 24 September 2023”.
Thus, it is not about taking over the sovereign competencies of Kosovo security institutions from KFOR, but about supporting Kosovo institutions in preventing aggression from Serbia”, Kupina told Klakosova.tv.
We remember that NATO has made a decision to increase the presence of KFOR troops in Kosovo. This comes after the terrorist attack that took place on September 24th in Zvecan Banjska, where a Kosovo police officer was killed.
