Omitron Claude 22F, subline XBB1, XBB2.6 and XBB 1.30: Ministry announces infections with new options of Ovidius

Kosovo's epidemiological situation with COVID-19

In order for early detection of COVID-19 cases and possible implications in population health, I The KSHPK is continuing to transmit the epidemiological situation with new variants of COVID-19, constantly investigating and tracking possible sources of spread of cases.

While the European Centre for Prevention and Disease Control (ECDC) has announced that in 36th of 2023 ( 04-10 September 2023) in the European region of OBS there has been a decline of 8.1% of the number of new cases and an 11.3% drop in death rates compared to the week 35/2023, I The KSHPK reports that 67 positive cases and 1 case of death with COVID-19 in Kosovo have been reported in the last two weeks.

According to the age groups, the largest number of cases belong to 50-59 age groups (with 16 cases) and 60-69 (with 15 cases) at age 52.

Since confirmed cases with COVIED-19, according to municipalities it turns out that the largest number of cases were reported by the Pristina municipality (25 cases), Peja (8 cases) and Gjakova (7 cases), while the highest incidentity of cases was reported in Pristina municipality with 13 cases in 100,000 residents and Kacanik with 12 cases in 100,000 residents.

The National Institute has established its laboratory capacities and the Department of Microbiology, sequenced and analysed successfully in the first week of September 2023 to the total 29 samples with SARS-CoV-2 collected from positive cases with COVID-19 in Kosovo from the period April-August 2023, from the 15th week of August to the end of August 30th and 5th (35) in 2023, with 75% of samples taken in August when the positiveity of the SARS Co-2V samples increased.

Of the total samples 34.48% (in 10 cases) has been detected the Omitron Claude 22F version represented by the XBB version and that subline XBB.1 was detected in 7 cases, subline XBB.2.6 in 1 case and the XBB.1.30 subline detected in 2 cases.

The ECDC uses three categories of variants classification to communicate growing levels of concern for a new or developing SARS-CoV-2 version: version under monitor (VUM), version of interest (VOI) and version of concern (VOC).

Many countries have already changed, or have begun to change their testing strategies, usually with a focus on the most targeted test of vulnerable populations or cases of serious illness.

Despite the presence of COVID-19 cases, the epidemiological situation in the Republic of Kosovo with COVID-19 remains calm, while citizens who manifest signs of infection are advised to test and consult the doctor for any suspicion at COVID-19, as part of the pre-emptive measures for controlling and fighting COVID-19 infection.
