The summit between Prime Minister Kurti and President Vuciq under EU mediation is considered one of the most important meetings in Belgrade. Aware of political developments there estimate this meeting is expected to result in greater pressure to persuade Serbs in Kosovo to participate in early elections in Kosovo's 4 northern municipalities.
In Belgrade, the next meeting in Brussels between the president of Serbia and the prime minister of Kosovo is expected to be one of the most important in the dialogue process. According to some political representatives, elections in northern Kosovo will be one of the main topics, while towards Serbia, according to them, great pressure is expected to convince Serbs in Kosovo to vote in those elections.
Serbia is under greater supervision than Kosovo, and I think Serbia is also a greater cause of these escalations. I expect Prime Minister Kurti, as he warned, to proclaim elections at any moment, even by the end of the year, but I agree that the ball is primarily in Belgrade's field, and that there are threats from France to the visa regime”, Zoran Vulletic of the Civic Democratic Forum has said.
As this meeting takes place following tensions in northern Kosovo, analysts say
The West believes that the agreement on the road to normalisation of relations was reached in February, so all that plan will be implemented.
This is one of the most important meetings in the coming period. After that meeting, it will be known whether in the coming months there will be normalisation and extension or the situation in northern Kosovo will be extended with new unwanted events that can happen unless the” agreement is reached, said Dragisa Mijaciq of the Institute for Territorial Economic Development.
Should there be a step towards normalisation or a postponement in Brussels, it remains to be seen. But in Belgrade it is believed this is the most important moment for resolving Kosovo issues- Serbia ahead of the European and American elections in the coming year, when attention will be paid to other topics and problems.
