From January until July of this year, Kosovo has spent over 305m euros in financial support for retired persons and for those on different social schemes.

Such schemes include different categories: from monthly payments to war veterans to pensions for compensation of education workers for the work done during the 1990s.

In the report released in late August by the Kosovo Statistics Agency, 15 different categories have been specified.

Compared to last year, the number of those who receive financial support from the state budget has dropped by 19 thousand.

And the decline in the number of beneficiaries has led, during this year's January-July period, to cut costs from Kosovo's budget for about 31m euros less than during the same period last year.

According to data provided by the Kosovo Statistics Agency in the <x0 report Social welfare statistics”, mostly money is spent on payments to retired persons, followed by pensions for war veterans.

About 19m euros from money spent on social welfare this year have gone towards paying for families living in poverty.

The largest number of these payments can reach up to 250 euros per family, and the sum depends on the number of family members ʹ have been processed in the South Mitrovica municipality.

In this municipality, some 8,880 persons received assistance during the month of July this figure evidently higher than any other municipality. After South Mitrovica, Vushtrria ranks with a total of 5,670 social aid beneficiaries.

According to Kosovo Statistics Agency data, the unemployment rate in Kosovo in the last quarter of 2022 was 11.8 percent.

During this year, the Government of Kosovo has extended additional aid through open subsidies to the E-Kosovo digital platform, where citizens have had the opportunity to apply for electrical equipment, house isolation, etc. / A2 CNN
