The Kosovo Democratic Institute has estimated that after the media conference, at which Prime Minister Albin Kurti, together with Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi, has spoken of recent developments within dialogue with Serbia, Kurti must report to the Assembly as well.
In a response to KDI they reportedly welcome the information Kurti made about dialogue and that informing the public about developments in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue process is essential to ensuring transparency and public accountability, as well as increasing civic confidence in the process.
But, according to them, Kurti has to respond to MPs. However, this does not mandate the prime minister's responsibility to report as soon as possible after today's alarming statements before the Kosovo Assembly as the highest foreign policy watchdog. The prime minister's reporting before the Assembly, except that it is constitutional duty, is vital to maintain a standard of democratic and responsible governance”, the KDI response said.
According to KDI in this direction, even opposition political subjects must exercise their parliamentary role to keep the executive accountant, reportedly demanding regular prime minister reports about dialogue with Serbia
The executive presentation at media conferences after meetings under dialogue is positive, but it cannot be the replacement for constitutional obligations to the constitution institution, in line with democratic principles of division and balance of powers”, it is said in response.
