The United States' envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, said on Tuesday that he had not taken any pledges from Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti to implement the basic agreement between Kosovo and Serbia and its annex.
Kurti said Monday that she spoke to the American emissary “about the importance of quick and full implementation of the Bazic Agreement and its Annex”.
But in one Interview for Voice of America On September 12th, Escobar said: “I didn't take vows from Kurti. ”
“We want concrete pledges to start implementation. And as far as Kosovo is concerned, this includes presenting the draft association for Serb majority municipalities. He did not vow to do so. He, in essence, pledged to go to Brussels and to be present at meetings, but nothing beyond that”, Escobar added.
On February 27th, in Brussels, Kosovo and Serbia have agreed to the basic agreement towards normalising relations between the two countries. On March 18th, the parties have also agreed on the Annex for implementation of the agreement, which envisions a certain level of self-awareness of the Serb community in Kosovo.
Escobar made these comments on the eve of the meeting between Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, and Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, in Brussels on Thursday.
