Great Britain's Ambassador to Serbia, Edward Ferguson, has spoken of the September 24th terrorist attack on Zvecan Banjsk, which he said many questions are still unanswered.
Ferguson said that some of the questions that still have no answers are who the attackers were, how they managed to enter with such an arsenal and what they were planning to do.
The “is extremely important that Serbia now contribute to a full investigation and bringing responsible to justice. I understand emotions are high on all sides, but what we desperately need now is responsibility and self-control”.
There is no excuse for attacks on police that took place on Sunday. At the same time, we must admit that this did not happen in the vacuum, but in the context of tensions added to the ground, all because of the serial failures to achieve progress in normalising relations between Belgrade and Pristina”, Ferguson told the Serbian media Nova.
On the other hand, Ferguson said dialogue under EU auspices is the key place to settle disputes between Kosovo and Serbia.
Unresolved tensions between Belgrade and Pristina are, of all issues, perhaps the biggest obstacle to the economic development of this region. We can all see the consequences in the form of going abroad of a large number of young people”.
What the events of last weekend have shown is that this is not only an important but urgent issue. For this reason we call on President Vuciq and Prime Minister Kurti to turn dialogue into a compromise spirit and in the interest of all people in this region and wider Europe”, he said.
