“Albin Kurti accepted Asociation, Vetevendosje s ka Face”

The upcoming meeting of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, and Serbia's president, Alexander Vuciq, will take place on 14 September.

Kurti and Vuciq have last met on May 2nd nine days after extraordinary elections in northern Kosovo, which have been boycotted by local Serb populations. Since then, there have been a number of tensions and crises between the two countries.

While, on August 30th, the EU reiterated the call for both to create a climate for continuing dialogue.

But whether there will be an appointment, and whether a deal will be reached between them, FrontOnline spoke of former negotiator Avni Arifi.

According to him, Serbia is interested in not having any step forward.

Former negotiator Avni Arifi has voiced sceptical that in the near future there will be final agreements with Serbia.

“It seems that all prognosis is grim, Serbia does not have the interest of reaching agreement, it is not interested in having elections in the north, it is not interested in having municipal association, they are mainly trying to push the process specifically to the US and EU election year, and there is nothing this year, but in the next”, it has been expressed.

While acknowledging that Kosovo is in a more difficult position.

“We are in a much more difficult position because reaching the agreement is the direct interest of Kosovo, the economic position in Kosovo in general is beautiful depressive where a large portion of young people are releasing Kosovo, and the worst thing now is that we have sanctions, which will gradually be seen to have an effect on the daily lives of Kosovo citizens”, he has said.

French President Emmanuel Macron has said his country will review the pledges it has made on economic and political visa issues for Kosovo and Serbia if they do not behave responsibly.

Arifi has said all Kosovo institutions should be concerned.

“Finance is one of the main countries of the European Union along with Germany, their political position should disturb all Kosovo institutions. I've seen a lot of tests that this can be done or can't be done. Of course, everything can be done in terms of the European Union that France sponsors. Kosovo institutions must take the positions of European leaders very seriously. France is among the states that have helped Kosovo, are participating in shellings, and is the fifth state to have recognised Kosovo, and the criticism coming from France deserves a more diplomatic response and a more friendly response than the response from Kosovo”, he has stated.

Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has said on Wednesday that the suspension of the visa removal decision for Kosovo citizens from January 1st 2024 would kill the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.

Arifi says association should be in line with the Constitution, without executive competence and no third level of power
