Ukraine's president, Voldymyr Zelensky, has told Ukrainian diplomats that he hopes a meeting with Russia could be reached this fall, saying the planned talks in Saudi Arabia this week are a “gur opened” towards it.
He added that about 40 countries will be represented at that meeting in Saudi Arabia, writes Sky News.
A similar meeting was held in Copenhagen in June, attended by senior officials from G7, the EU, Brazil and Turkey. China was invited but did not attend.
Andri Yermak, who heads Zelensky's office, said Ukraine's advisers are already preparing for the meeting of Saudi Arabia.
He said Kiev wanted more countries from Asia, Africa and Latin America to participate in Saudi Arabia to help in “work out opportunities to hold the upcoming Global Peace Summit”.
Yermak added: “We must restore world order, international law and establish a fair peace based on the UN Charter and on the terms of Ukraine”. /abcnews. al
