Ukraine-Russia War on New Fronts

Ukrainian attacks on Russian Black Sea ships, fears in Moscow, Russian attacks on a Ukrainian port in the Danube near the Romanian border, bombing of the Honkar Bridge in Crime: all indicate that Russia and Ukraine are increasingly willing to grant a new dimension of war, bringing the conflict to [...]

Ukraine is continuing the counterattack that started in the southeast about two months ago.

While Ukraine is generally reserved for attacks within Russia, President Voldymyr Zelensky and other senior officials have recently hinted that attacks on Russia's controlled territory are part of a plan to show Russians the war launched by the Kremlin, reports Abcnews.al.

On Sunday, Russian air defence knocked down an impending fears of Moscow, according to an announcement by city mayor Sergei Sobyan. At the same time, the Vukovo airport, which serves Moscow, temporarily suspended flights for security reasons, according to Russian state news agency Tass.

Last week, Russians accused Ukraine of two fears that damaged a building in Moscow.

In May, a drone hit the Kremlin. Russia is also intensifying its attacks on various regions of Ukraine. For a year, the port city of Odessa, a vital prewar for Ukrainian grain exports, had largely escaped Russian invasions.

But in three weeks since Moscow withdrew from an agreement that allowed Ukraine to transport grain and other foods across the Black Sea, Russian forces have repeatedly hit the port, damaging the wheat facilities and reserves.

The goal was to prevent any attempts by Ukraine to unilaterally export its products.

In addition, Russian missiles have hit Ukraine's smaller ports on the Danube River in recent days, which were an alternative export route for millions of tons of grain.

In the middle of the week, Kiev published images claiming to be from a fearful attack at the Black Sea port of Navarasisk, neutralising Russian ship Olenegorsky Gornyak, reports abcnews.al.

On Sunday, Ukraine's air force reported that the country's air defence fell 30 rockets and 27 fears overnight. Russia launched an air strike in Kmilnytsky, central Ukraine, causing damage to buildings but no victims.

Igor Konasenkov, a spokesman for the Russian Defence Ministry, claimed Russia used precise weapons to hit Ukrainian military air bases near the town of Starokastyniv, as well as Dubno, in the northwest region of Rivne.

Despite the high number of victims in the armies of the two countries, but also on Ukrainian civilians (according to the United Nations over 9,000, negotiations to end the fighting have not yet made significant progress.

That is partly because both sides are seeking to gain territory. President Zelensky has proposed a peace plan that requires a Russian ceasefire and Moscow's withdrawal from all Ukrainian territory, including Crimea. The Kremlin flatly rejects these demands.

Representatives from Ukraine and about 40 other countries gathered in Saudi Arabia over the weekend in a bid for a peace settlement. Russia did not participate.

In addition to the United States and European countries, allies of Russia, Brazil, China, India and South Africa (also known as BRUCS) and some of the oil-rich Gulf states that have tried to maintain good relations with both Ukraine and Russia during the war.

The Ukrainian president's office commented on Sunday that the meeting was a “step towards practical implementation of the Ukrainian-proposed peace initiatives”. China, which appeared neutral, was open to the idea of holding further talks, according to a European Union official.

Russia will discuss the results of talks with other BICS countries attending the meeting, Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told abcnews.al on Sunday.

On Saturday, as negotiations were under way, a rocket hit a blood transfusion centre in northeastern Kharkiv.

Meanwhile, two Russian missile attacks in the eastern Ukrainian town of Pokrovsk, including a residential building, caused at least 8 victims and injured 67 others, including 29 police officers, seven rescue forces employees and two children.
