Stano confirms European, US deputies' letter to Borrell

The European Union's High Representative for Common Foreign Policy and Security, Josep Borrell, has accepted a letter from dozens of European and American political representatives who have asked Brussels and Washington to change their approach in relation to Kosovo and Serbia, Brussels spokesman Peter Stano has confirmed. “How [...]
“As a general rule, we do not comment on the correspondence that the High Representative (Borell) receives from different conversationors. If the corresponding acters write to him, he answers through corresponding channels. We don't correspond through the media”, Stano said in a statement to the media.
Fifty-six deputies from Europe and the United States have sought through a letter “balance and proportionality in interaction with Kosovo and Serbia”.
However, Stano recalls that EU foreign policy makes 27 member states unanimously and that it has close co-operation with the US.
Confirming neutrality in the dialogue process for normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia, the EU spokesman emphasises that Brussels institutions assess the parties' commitment to dialogue “on the basis of their individual merits and reports to member states”.
“The EU has submitted demands to both sides to resolve current tensions and enable the normalisation process to continue. The European Union is carefully monitoring whether Serbia meets its requirements and is willing to take measures in the event of disrespect of these requests”, Stano said further.
In June, Brussels imposed measures on the Government of Kosovo due to its failure to meet international requirements related to the deregulation of the situation in the country's north.
A month later Kosovo agreed to take several steps, which Brussels praised as “opened in the right direction”, but it is said the measures will only be removed when all requirements are met.
