Stano calls on Kosovo and Serbia: Create conditions for continuing dialogue

The European Union (BE) has reiterated the requirements to Kosovo and Serbia for taking steps that have been asked to create the conditions for continuing dialogue, but has not wanted to mention the deadlines of when a summit in Brussels could occur. These attitudes have been expressed for [...]
These positions have been expressed to Radio Free Europe Peter Stano, the EU's spokesperson for foreign and security issues.
The dialogue work is continuing. We have repeatedly repeated in recent weeks that there is a clear expectation on the part of the EU that the parties take very clearly defined steps for the despass, and create the conditions for continuing dialogue”, Stano said.
On July 10th, Kosovo and the European Union agreed on several steps towards extending the situation in northern Kosovo, including reducing the police presence and organising new elections in four northern municipalities.
Kosovo police announced on August 4th the reduction of 25 per cent of their officers' presence in and around municipal facilities in northern Kosovo.
Meanwhile, EU special envoy for dialogue Miroslav Lajcak is continuing meetings with representatives of Kosovo and Serbia to prepare the next meeting within the dialogue. He mentioned September as the deadline for the next meeting, but not a precise date.
Stano has also refused to mention the date, saying that “will announce the date for any future meeting led by the High Representative when appropriate”.
The European Union spokesman has reiterated calls for quick implementation and without delay of the agreements that have come out of the dialogue.
“We, too, have said very clearly that it is necessary for the dialogue facilitated by the high representative and the rapid implementation of the deal for normalisation of reports and application annexs to take place without any new delay” he stressed.
There have been no high-level meetings within dialogue for a long period.
The last time Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbia's President Aleksandar Vuciq were in Brussels was 22 June, but even then they didn't have a meeting.
In the EU, they claim they aim for the situation now to normalise in the north and for the parties to avoid any action that could cause new tensions and thus negatively affect the dialogue process.
