Saudi Arabia border guards have killed hundreds of Ethiopian immigrants and asylum seekers trying to cross the Arabo-Jemen border, according to the human rights organisation Human Rights Watch (HRW).
It is said that people have been shot from the vicinity, including children. Bombing weapons have also been reportedly used against immigrants.
The report spoke of the period between March 2022 and June 2023. However, the latest HRW research showed that the killings are still taking place. The report is based on 38 witness interviews, satellite images and published images on online networks.
Last year, the UN reported “disturbing claims” that Saudi Arabia's security forces had killed about 430 immigrants on the Yemen border in the first months of 2022.
Witnesses have told HRW human rights activists that they have seen a mountain of <x0 bodies” along the migration route, reports the German newspaper Spiegel.
“When Saudi Arabia security officials see a group (migration), they continue to shoot,” told employees one of the survivors.
According to estimates by the organisation for human rights, Saudi Arabia officials killed hundreds of “perhaps thousands of” immigrants in the border area.
