Navajo, currently in a Russian prison, was poisoned in 2020.
The US Treasury Department said the four sanctioned individuals are believed to be linked to the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB).
“Today we remind [Russian president] Vladimir Putin and his regime that there are consequences not only for the launch of brutal and unprotested war against Ukraine, but also for violating Russian people's human rights”, Treasury Undersecretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson said through a statement.
“Tentim-murdering against Alexei Navally in 2020 represents the contempt that the Kremlin does to human rights. We will continue to use the authority we have at our disposal to hold the possible gels of the Kremlin” responsible, he added.
Navajo, who since 2010 has staged massive protests in Russia, was arrested in January 2021 after returning from Germany. He had been treated in Germany about what Western doctors said was poisoning with a Soviet-era nervous agent.
Navalny has accused the Kremlin of standing behind the poisoning, but the Kremlin has denied these claims. / REL/
