Prosecutors Call for Trial Against Trump on Election Issues to Begin on 2 January

Special Prosecutor's Team Jack Smith has asked federal judge Tanja Chutkan that the trial against former President Trump on charges of trying to overturn the outcome of the 2020 presidential election begin in Washington on two January. If the judge accepts the prosecution's request made Thursday, the trial against Mr. Trump will [...]
That date also meant that the trial would begin two weeks before the first votes for domestic competitions for the republican candidate for president, in which Mr. Trump currently leads.
Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump's deputy stated Thursday that he is innocent of the new charges in the case of illegally holding secret documents in Mr. Trump's home in Mar-a-Lago. Meanwhile, former President Trump's property manager in Mar-Lago was tried because he has not yet provided a defence lawyer in Florida.
Mr. Trump gave up his right to appear together with his assistant Walt Nauta and property manager Carlos De Oliveira at the federal court in Fort Pierce and the judge accepted an innocent statement he delivered to court last week.
Postponing Mr. De Oliveira's case because he failed to secure a defence lawyer in Florida is the latest delay in the matter of classified documents, whose trial is scheduled to begin in May. Mr. Trump's lawyers have already said they will seek to postpone the start of the planned trial process in May of next year. The judge appointed on Tuesday a new deadline for court appearance for Mr. De Oliveira.
On the special prosecutor's updated indictment Jack Smith late last month, Nauta and De Oliveira are accused of plotting with the former Republican president in efforts to erase security cameras at Mar-a-Lago, wanted by investigators. They faced charges, including conspiracy to prevent justice in the case related to government secret documents found on Mr. Trump's property in Palm Beach after he left the White House in 2021.
Mr. Nauta and former President Trump were charged in June and later declared innocent of the secret documents, but the new indictment added the number of charges against them and Mr. De Oliveira.
Mr. De Oliveira made an initial appearance in the court in July, but was not declared on charges because he failed to find a defence attorney in Florida.
Mr. Trump currently faces dozens of counts of crimes, and the latest indictment added new charges of obstruction of justice and intentional restraint, in violation of the law, to classified documents linking national security.
