Following the Pristina University decision, that professors are barred from engaging in any college or private institution of higher education in Kosovo, experts say this is a decision that all institutions of higher education should make.
Radio Kosovo, has asked the University of Pristina for data about the number of professors of this institution who are engaged in private colleges, but such an answer has not returned.
While some of the private colleges have declined to comment on the Pristina University decision, saying it is the internal decision of another institution.
Meanwhile, education issue connoisseur, Youth Qehaja, from the “Institute EdGard”, told Radio Kosovo it is meaningless if a professor contributes to another competitive institution, until paid by another institution.
“Stopping the involvement of academic staff in private colleges represents a policy that would be very normal for any institution of higher education. So, contributing to another competitive institution, until you're paid by another institution, it's pointless, insincere and unfair”, Qehaja said.
Qehaja does not think that the number of academic staff having such a conflict of interest is too great to harm the institution.
What's very important is that every university professor engaged full-time should offer full-time commitment and commitment to the institution that is declared as such, he added.
Organisations that have monitored work in higher education institutions have sometimes claimed to have accepted complaints by students about the lack of professors in lectures, consultations and exams.
And last year, the Kosovo Agency for Accreditation has made the decision that bearer professors of accreditation programmes would have to choose only one of the private or public institutions to be hosters of those programmes, avoiding the possibility of double commitments in the process of accreditment.
According to the Pristina University decision, professors are obliged to determine by September 20th where they will engage in working, public university or private institutions of higher education.
