Otherwise, the Education Ministry's decision to cover the cost of textbooks for students from the first to fifth grade has triggered numerous reactions. Several issues have been raised in public opinion, including how the cost of textbooks and textbooks for students will be accomplished, and especially the transfer of funds to parent bank accounts that may be problematic for many reasons.
Kosovo Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (MASHTI), Arberie Nagavci, announced that they will be separated from 80 euros for students from first grade to fifth grade for the purchase of textbooks, while to receive them parents must apply online from 25 August.
Addressing the parents of primary students, via a video on her Facebook account, Nagavci said that <x0mnets will be shown to your accounts since the beginning of next week. ”
Meanwhile, for students from sixth to ninth grade who already have textbooks provided from last year, 30 euros will be allocated as support for other school materials, she announced.
The Ministry of Education has distributed books for primary school students free of charge since 2008.
But, Nagavci announced last week that it has changed the way the textbooks are distributed, due to the failure of the agreement with publishing houses for the supply of book schools, because, according to her, publishing houses have offered prices far higher than those they place in their libraries.
As a result, the Ministry will deposit the parents of students with tools in their accounts so that they can buy the books themselves.
School textbooks prices in several libraries in Pristina for first-class students up to fifth amount to up to 60 euros, while for those in the sixth to ninth grade, up to 80 euros.
Parents will have to apply on the government's online platform, E-Kosovo, for providing money for the purchase of textbooks for their children.
This decision by Minister Nagavci has been rejected by the opposition, which has demanded her resignation, as well as by the Kosovo Parents' Council itself.
The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) demanded Nagavci's resignation because of what he has described as “mismanagement of the school year”, while the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) also called for the collapse of the Kosovo Government.
“Kosovo does not deserve a minister who has failed to manage education at any level and has eventually surrendered by handing over responsibility to parents”, said the head of the Women's Forum in the LDK, Jehona Lucaku, during a news conference on August 22nd.
