Ombudsman is handling complaints by northern citizens

She has said that recently, due to developments in the north, the ombudsman has been visiting this part of the country several times to negotiate with civil society and citizens.

Sinan-Lulaj has clarified that in the north an official dealing with the demands of citizens in that part is engaged, claiming that when there is no full functioning of institutions, citizens are mostly affected.

She says the security issue requires rapid intervention, and for that reason these cases do not reach them, adding that the journalists in these cases should be paying attention.

Apart from the central office in Pristina, we have eight regional offices all over Kosovo, including two in Mitrovica, one in the south and one in the north. We have a colleague who's like a citizen's address there. That's why we opened these offices so that we could be closer to the citizens”.

Because of the sensitivity that the area has, the ombudsman, in private recently, has been several times there, contacted civil society, contacted citizens, visited several villages, to see the troubles and complaints they may have against authorities. In the institution, cases of citizens of that part are being handled. It's hard to give a statement about what the situation is like”, she said about Online Economics.

Of course, when there is no full functioning of institutions, it is the citizen who always suffers. Citizens' polls are almost the same. It could be property issues, document-related issues, schooling. The security part is the issue that probably doesn't reach us because faster interventions are required, but we carefully follow it, not just for citizens there. Suppose the work of journalists, during the period the situation has been sensitive. As we talked about working conditions, the journalists ' profession deserves attention”.
