British MP Alicia Kearns and Ukrainian Eurodeput Oleksandr Merezhko have launched an open public letter for the Kosovo-Serbia report.
They have directed this to the EU emissary for dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, US envoy for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar, as well as the emissar of Great Britain, Stuart Peach.
Ukrainian Eurodeput at the same time as the chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Commission, Oleksandr Merezhko, signed in this letter, saying that Kosovo is an independent state until Ukraine has yet to accept Kosovo as an independent state.
This letter reportedly writes about concerns about current EU, US and Great Britain policy on Kosovo-Serbia relations.
It requires a review of the so far approach to Pristina-Belgrade reports.
“As long as our focus should remain on normalising relations and the Euro-Atlantic road for both Serbia and Kosovo, the recent riots require that all sides focus on de-progressing and preventing”.
Kosovo Serb municipal election “Bojkot on 23 April, the subsequent attack on KFOR soldiers on May 29th, and the arbitrary ban by Kosovo police from Serbian authorities on 14 June, all indicate a rapid deterioration of the situation, which not only threatens the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue, but the peace of the region itself. Recent findings of weapons depots in northern Kosovo and reports of continued arms smuggling across the Kosovo-Serbia border highlight the risks of further escalation”, said on paper.
Among other things, it is stressed that balance and proportionality must be restored in relations with Kosovo and Serbia.
Kosovo is a sovereign state and a functional democracy. This fact should form the basis for our common policy on the current crisis. Efforts to undermine democratic elections in Kosovo from Serbia must be publicly criticised as foreign intervention with clear measures for them to be held responsible if they continue to undermine free and fair elections. This will help facilitate future elections with full participation by all communities present in northern municipalities. We must exercise preventive diplomacy if the current crisis should be resolved, the EU-launched dialogue must yield positive results and implementation of the Ohrid Agreement should be respected”.
“We demand that balance and proportionality be restored in relations with Kosovo and Serbia. Kosovo has faced significant consequences following efforts by mayors to enter their offices in northern Kosovo. Kosovo must co-ordinate with KFOR in the future to prevent escalation. But the lack of pressure exerted on Serbia following the arbitrary ban of three Kosovo police officers and the failure to hold it responsible for attacks on KFOR highlights the current lack of impartiality in addressing such provisions”, the report said.
It also says that the current approach to Serbia does not work and that new measures must be used against this state.
We see the latest sanction by the US government for Aleksandar Vulin, head of the Serbian Security and Information Agency (BIA). The actual approach doesn't work. We will demand that the international community learn from our past and ensure that we do not accept a policy that downtown Belgrade has for the Balkans”.
“We also demand that you take into account the use of a diplomacy policy to prevent further deterioration of the security and political situation in northern Kosovo, with balance and proportional that guides any declaration, any punishment or sanctions issued, and that those who support rule of law and democracy are not reproved” are said in the letter that was published by Kyviv Post. /Klankosova. tv
