The most appropriate way for announcing early elections in four municipalities in the north is the petition, Prime Minister Albin Kurti has said.
The government leader has said that large-scale deespassing in the north has taken place, until he has asked the European Union to avoid punitive measures as soon as possible and improve its stance on Kosovo.
Kurti has added that they are working to quickly regulate technical and administrative issues for new elections in the north.
“As far as early new elections are concerned, we have said from the beginning we are not satisfied with the release of citizens in this year's April 23rd elections and what they learned as a 24th percentage tomorrow. So we've offered the possibility of having early elections, but of course we want the situation, in which we will again have boycotts of participation in the elections, whether as a vote or as a run-off. We think the right way for this is using Article 72 of the Law for Local Self-government, which envisions the possibility of 20 percent of the electoral body emerging and expressing their will to cut off the mandate of the current mayors. We're open for this. A working group has also been created that will regulate the technical administrative issues of the provisions of this article and this law. Now let's wait for their work, the sooner the better, but once again I'm saying I don't think there's any more reason for anyone to have doubts that Kosovo is not a constructive party. On the contrary, we are constructive parties who have witnessed creative ideas and commitment to finding solutions”, Kurti said.
He has added that Kosovo is interested in full deespasses in the north, but according to him should be careful from the possibility of resurpassing the situation there.
“We have a working group now that made the security situation assessment, where Kosovo police consult with EULEX even KFOR. As a result of these assessments of this professional group, twice by 25 percent have reduced our police presence in three buildings in Kosovo's three northern municipalities. We are interested in further design, though it is a general conclusion that the transition has already taken place to a large extent. We have no violent protests, no incidents but we have to be careful about the potential of the resurpass. The address of this is known to be not in the Republic of Kosovo, but in the capital of our northern neighbour”, Prime Minister Kurti has declared.
Speaking of the European Union's punitive measures towards Kosovo, Prime Minister Kurti has said the same are not fair and must be removed as soon as possible.
According to him, the EU must improve its attitude towards Kosovo.
“As far as measures are taken against us, we consider they are not fair. They're part of the asset in the reports and the sooner they end up the better. We are doing all we can and know, but it would have to be that our European partners and allies as soon as they improve their attitude towards Kosovo. After a democratic and progressive Republic such as Kosovo deserves help with all they can and not with punitive measures”, he has told Kosovapress.
On the other hand, Kurti has also welcomed the letter of European and American lawmakers, requiring greater support for Kosovo and tougher access to Serbia.
“Under the parliaments of democratic Western states, the European Union and the United States of America increasingly has lawmakers, representatives of the lyrical and democratic peoples who want the approach to Kosovo to improve and towards Serbia to be toughed. We think that such an initiative is fair and useful”, Kurti concludes./ KSP
