Kosovo breast cancer affects increase

The number of breast cancer victims in Kosovo has increased by more than 10% in the seven months of 2023, compared to the same period last year. By half of August this year, 270 people have been diagnosed with this malignant disease, where four are males. The Oncology Clinic says it needs increased medical staff, while saying they lack a greater room to treat patients. As far as the supply of essential drugs is concerned, this clinic says they stay well.

Oncology Clinic Director Ilir Kurtishi for Kosova Prees said the number of breast cancer victims is growing year-on-year, while adding that this number could exceed 450 by the end of the year.

“Nori is growing year-on-year, and we have about 1015 more cases year-on-year and for the first seven months of this year 2023, we have identified about 123 cases of cancer in all cases. And especially with breast cancer, we have about the first seven months 270 breast cancer cases, which for the same period last year is about 10 percent more than last year. And we think that this number will not exceed 450 new breast cancer cases by the end of the year. We think that this number might be less maybe, but according to the train, and the identification of cases for months, it could reach that figure or go a little higher. This year, until today, there are four males over 30 years old who have breast cancer”, Kurtishi said.

Kurtishi noted that Oncology Clinic needs increased medical staff, adding that patients ' therapy facilities are also lacking.

We need more staff and superiors, and we hope that by the end of the year or next year specializations will be opened by the lemia of Oncology, especially medical Oncology and Radio therapy. Since, we need additional medical staff, and if we think about opening another branch in another Kosovo center, then normally we should have new specialists. Oncology clinic, missing and missing space, as we have to have even more space, we'll have enough room for patients to receive therapy. The future space we will need because the number is rising”, Kurteshi said.

Kurtishz has also expressed satisfaction with new equipment, which says that the same have made life easier for patients by not having to go abroad for treatment.

He adds that they plan to reduce the zero-to-zero waiting list for checks.

Thus, with all of these four new equipment has become a very high investment in our clinic, and now our patients will have even better and more sophisticated treatment of these diseases. We think that this list, and actually by the end of the year we have zero, and this zero means that the cases that are planned, doesn't mean that if the patient gets to the clinic today and tomorrow it's going to start with radial”, Kurtishi stressed.

Kurtishi for Kosova Prees said there is a shortage of some essential drugs, but, according to him, are supplied enough with the most important and most expensive ones.

And we're well supplied with drugs, and especially up to this point when we're talking, except for some drugs that, in the absence of marketing authorization, we're also in the process of solving those problems. So there's about five or six drugs, and finally in the last two weeks, we've had small shortages in two or three precautions that have been spent and we expect them to get very quickly to the clinic. But when it comes to expensive drugs, immunological drugs, immunological therapy, biology drugs, monochlonal vessels... we almost all have them on a daily basis here, and most patients, not all of them, are regularly supplied with these drugs, which have a huge impact on their health”, the potential Kurtishi.

On the other hand, Kurtishi said that the number of people who make mammography should be increased, so that we can avoid the disease.

In addition, oncologist indicated that in Prizren they have opened a branch that goes once a month and does the distribution of pills and controls breast cancer patients, until he added that they think they can open another branch in another Kosovo centre.
