Kosovo only accepted two recognitions for five years

Since September 4th 2020, when Israel accepted Kosovo's independence, the number of recognitions continues to remain 117. The move towards ensuring the new recognitions, Foreign Affairs Minister Donika Gervala has warned. International relations acquaintances and political circumstances say that more work is needed for new recognition [...]
On September 4th, there are three years since Israel became the last state to accept Kosovo's independence. This recognition was secured by former Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti and former US President Donald Trump at the White House, in the presence of Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq. In the past five years, Kosovo was only accepted by Barbados.
Without specifying names of states, positive movement in terms of new recognition has warned in a proposal for RTK's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Donika Grovalla.
“We know how aggressive the campaign of Serbia and Russia is to prevent new recognitions and create Kosovo's recognition by various states. Therefore, neither of the countries we talk to publicly face such challenges. But there are multiple movements with a lot of states”, Gervala said.
Speaking to Radio Kosovo, regarding the process of recognition, international relations professor Dritro Arifi says sceptical about the quick security of any recognition.
“We have no recognition and I believe we will not have new recognitions until the end of this government, because these alone have abstained from foreign policy. Kosovo's recognitions do not come without our allies, like the US, EU countries, the UK or even Turkey. Only with co-ordination with these countries can we ensure recognition, and unfortunately, we do not have co-ordination, but also sanctions, exactly from our strategic partners”, he said.
Stigning recognitions also connects with the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, states politician Arta Tahiri-Beqa, under which the country should focus on securing recognitions from the five European Union countries.
“Dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, which is under way, I think that in the final phase it will affect the immediate recognition of Kosovo by the five EU nations, which would pave the way for Kosovo to integrate into EU institutions”, Tahiri-Beqa told Radio Kosovo.
Reference to the Foreign Affairs Ministry Web site, only 21 countries in the world have accepted Kosovo's independence in the last 10 years.
