Leader “was killed after direct clashes against the jihadist group Hajat Tarhir al-Sham in the province of Idlib, said IS spokesman through a recorded message, which was posted on the telegram.
However, the spokesman did not specify when the militant group leader was killed.
The IS also announced that Abi Hafsan al-Hashimi al-Qurashi will be the new leader of the group. This is the fifth leader this militant group appoints.
After a major increase in Iraq and Syria in 2014, occupying vast territory, the IS declared <x0-califat”, but this califat collapse after a wave of offensive.
The extremist group was defeated in Iraq in 2017 and two years later in Syria, but the group's silent cells still continue to carry out attacks in these two states.
Last November, the IS said the preliminary leader, Abu Hasan al-Hashimi al-Qasim, had been killed.
His predecessor, Abu Ibrahim al-Qurashi, was killed February of last year during an operation by the United States in the province of Idlib.
The group's first “Kalif”, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was also killed in Idlib in October 2019.
