Ambassador to the United States of America to Kosovo Jeff Hovenier has appeared firmly Tuesday as he spoke of the participation of Kosovo's Serb and Serb lists in the elections in four northern municipalities when they are announced.
He has said that Kosovo expects to secure the legal framework for elections, while from the Republika Srpska List its participation in them.
I saw some comments by the leaders of the Republika Srpska List after meetings in Washington and I want to stress some things. The first is that the United States, while in Washington, has no doubt heard that the US considers Kosovo to be, and since 2008, since its declaration of independence, we have recognised it as a sovereign state, we consider Kosovo independent sovereign and democratic state. The work we do with List Srpska, as Kosovo's political party, is an opposition party in Kosovo, is the work we do with other opposition parties in Kosovo” has said Hovier.
He has now called Kosovo's opposition party List Srpska, inviting her to play its role in independent and sovereign Kosovo.
“There should be no questions or any suggestions for the US position that Kosovo is something other than an independent state. And that includes northern Kosovo, as I have said many times, we know exactly where the border is. It's northern Mitrovica. We want the Serbian List to play its role as a political party in sovereign, independent and democratic Kosovo. We do not consider it a Serb political party, we consider it a party of ethnic Serbs in Kosovo. We must make this clear” has added Ambassador I USA.
Furthermore, Havenier said he had conversations with US Emissar Gabriel Escobar in the Kosovo-Serbia talks. He has said that the Republika Srpska List has heard from him that Washington's expectations and requirements are the participation of Kosovo Serbs in the elections.
I'm sure the leaders of the Republika Srpska List heard that, because I had conversations with Mr. Escobar, US expectations that Kosovo Serbs, including the Republika Srpska List, will participate in new municipal elections when they are appointed and announced. This is our request, this is our reception. We want to see from the Kosovo government to fulfill its vows, and this is the tea that has been discussed in Washington as well, so that legal framework that allows elections to be held in four northern municipalities --” has been explained by Havener.
These comments have been made by Havenier on the very day Kurti Government's decision to draft Administrative Guides, with which mayors in the North will leave to create conditions for the elections to be announced there.
