Kosovo's chief of diplomacy at the Strategic Forum Bled 2023 spoke on a panel with foreign ministers of the region, attended by Miroslav Lajcak, the EU's emissary for Kosovo-Serbia talks and Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic.
“We like Kosovo are ready, as a sovereign country to decide for our destiny. We are optimistic that domestic developments in Kosovo are good. Kosovo is willing to take up tasks and, with priority to join the EU”, Gervala said.
She said 2030 is a goal of Kosovo to prepare and integrate into the EU, hoping the EU will not change its accession date.
Serbian Foreign Affairs Minister Ivica Dacic intervened in the Gervala discussion, citing past agreements, while with particular emphasis he cited Association.
About Kosovo's EU accession by 2030, Gervala has said we should not underestimate a second aspect.
It's an economic union, it's a political union, and at the same time we have those security difficulties in our region, and we ask them to discuss NATO and EU membership in parallel with those who are ready for”, RTK reported.
She has said dialogue with Serbia could be closed much earlier.
Even Emisari Lajcak cited EU Council President Charles Michel's statement that the European Union will be ready for expansion by 2030.
The EU emissary considers this statement very important when it becomes known that EU membership will not last forever, but will be a new moment for the Western Balkans.
“parameters are more or less defined for gradual integration. So we're talking about European priorities that these processes are not mechanical... Certainly enlargement may not be a priority, but we are of full focus on enlargement, so the message to the region is not to lose this option”, Lajcak said.
He said last year has been very successful for integration, as Bosnia and Herzegovina received candidate status, even Macedonia and Albania also received negotiations, while Kosovo gained liberalisation.
