But, according to them, further steps are needed under the suspension of the situation in northern Kosovo.
“The EU welcomes the recent announcement by the Kosovo government for a further 25% reduction of police presence in and around municipal buildings in northern Kosovo. The decision was made after the technical level meeting between Kosovo Police and EULEX, aimed at setting common parameters for assessing the security situation in northern municipalities. These are steps in the right direction, but further steps -- ” -- are needed, says the EU response, to RTV Dukagjin.
Otherwise, the Kosovo government has launched the legal initiative for the removal of mayors of northern municipalities, which would pave the way for early elections. The departure of the mayors is supposed to be through petition.
Zubin Potok's chairman, Izmir Zeqiri, has declared today that he does not prefer the government's initiative to sack mayors through the petition procedure.
Izmir Zeqiri, who was elected to this position in the 23 April elections that were boycotted by the Serb minority that in the northern republic are majority, would like another idea for new elections.
“In my opinion it was better, it means having a political agreement to say so, and a will of resignations of the mayors”, Zeqiri told Klan Kosova.
