Szunyog says new elections should be held as soon as possible in the four northern municipalities -- North Mitrovica, Leposaviq, Zubin Potok and Zvecan. He says they should be inclusive and should ensure full participation of local Serbs.
“We discussed the upcoming elections in northern Kosovo with Minister Elbert Krasniqi. It was repeated that early elections should be organised as soon as possible in the four municipalities, fully inclusive with the full and unconditional participation of Kosovo Serbs”, said the announcement published in “X”.
Currently, the four northern municipalities are led by Albanian mayors, elected in April, in elections boycotted by Serb representatives, resulting in low voter turnout.
The Kosovo government agreed to hold new elections, after more than a month of tension, that began in late May, when the new mayors first entered municipal buildings.
