Constitutional changes in northern Macedonia and developments in northern Kosovo were the main topics at the meeting between Gabriel Escobar and Ali Ahmeti.
The chairman of the Democratic Union for Integration and the special envoy of the United States for the Western Balkans met under the visit Escobar is holding in northern Macedonia.
Kosovo was the common concern of our”, the chairman of the Democratic Union for Integration, the largest Albanian party in northern Macedonia, wrote in his Facebook account.
We established that the Ohrid Agreement between Kosovo and Serbia is historic and should be implemented without any delay”.
A March 18th agreement in Ohrid, the reconciliation of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti of Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq, was actually a clear annex to what had been achieved in Brussels on February 27th, where through 11 articles the US Union believed they had found a solution ahead.
There Kosovo agreed, except for others, to implement all agreements made earlier, including the Association of the Serb-run municipalities and reconciliation for a special status for the Serbian Orthodox Church.
Serbia was urged not to prevent Kosovo's membership in international organisations and generally some de-phacto recognition of citizenship.
Both the Brussels Agreement and the Ohrid Anex were supported by Ahmeti, but all the Albanian politicians of Northern Macedonia as well.
The reason for the support, said even then by Ahmeti, was the fact that the Americans were involved.
“The United States is the most valuable and precious friend not only of Kosovo, but also of all Albanians and the entire region”, Ahmeti reiterated after this recent meeting with Escobar.
“Albanians in particular are grateful for the American role and contribution to freedom, peace and democracy, and this assessment of all of us did not waver”, added.
Out of this, Ahmeti announced that the American top diplomat has expressed full support for the European integration of Northern Macedonia, which is realised through the adoption of constitutional amendments to the recognition of Bulgarians in northern Macedonia as the particular entity, this demand of the Bulgarian state.
Ahmeti, his partners in Macedonia's government, the Alliance of Arben Taravari, the Albanian Democratic Party of Menduh Thaci and the Macedonian LSDM are the parties that are pushing for constitutional change.
They were flatly rejected by Macedonian nationalist party V MRO-DPMNE.
The session for constitutional changes began on 18 August and is not known how long it will last.
Escobar this visit to northern Macedonia accomplishes precisely as open American support for required constitutional changes.
