Erdogan in Russia to revive grain deal

Turkey announced that President Recep Tayip Erdogan “very soon to visit Russia, where it will hold talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, on the revival of the deal to export Ukrainian cereals, agreements that could be used as a springboard for broader peace negotiations with Ukraine. Erdogan's party spokesman, Omer Cel, told reporters that this meeting will be held in Soci, the Russian city of the Black Sea, and will focus on the current food crisis.
“Sic you know, [Erdogan] will visit Socin” very soon, Celik told reporters.
Bloomberg news agency earlier reported that Erdogan could meet Putin on September 8th.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that preparations for the meeting are “intensive”, but showed no details about the time and place the two leaders will meet.
Erdogan has used his good relations with Moscow and Kiev and has tried to persuade both sides to hold formal peace talks.
The Turkish leader had last met Putin in Astana, Kazakhstan, October last year.
Also, the two leaders have held a teleconference in April to inaugurate a Russian-built nuclear power plant.
Turkey helped negotiate the first agreement between Ukraine and Russia since Moscow began its neighbour's unprotested invasion in February 2022. The deal enabled the export of cereals from three Ukrainian ports to the Black Sea.
Russia and Ukraine are major exporters of agricultural products, and this deal enabled global food prices to be cut.
However, Moscow left the deal last month, saying its demands were not met aimed at facilitating the export of Russian agricultural products and artificial waste.
Since then, Russia has repeatedly attacked infrastructure at the ports of Ukraine and has warned it could assess both military targets and vessels crossing the Black Sea.
