Elez's Hani with a suspended project due to EU measures

Several projects expected to improve citizens' living are under way in Elez Han's municipality, says Chairman Mehmet Ballzhi. The European Union's punitive measures towards Kosovo have suspended the project, related to the treatment of the Lepenc River. Mayor Ballage in an interview for Kosova Preis speaks even of a government's wrong decision that is affecting the municipal budget and is expressed dissatisfied with co-operation with the central level.

The Lepenc River Reservation Project, which in Elez's Hani municipality has remnants of Asbestos, including the municipalities of Artana and Obilic, has been put on hold. The Ballage cause is EU measures towards Kosovo.

The Kosovo Assembly weeks ago also passed the Government's proposal for forgiveness of up to 100 euros in property tax. For Ballage this is a wrong decision affecting the Communist budget.

He said the Kosovo government had to subsidise citizens and payments would not stop.

The head of Elez's Council of Hani cited several projects, such as that of the city park, the functioning of the drinking water factory, construction of the annex on the Lepe River bridge as some of the most influential projects currently under way.

Despite funding three projects, Ballage is not satisfied with its co-operation with central power. In spite of some visits they have had, he said, there has been little support for Elez Khan's projects.

He said their projects are not big but very important for the municipality.

Ballage says it is working to attract foreign investors to Han of Elez. He says they are in negotiations with an Israeli company for alternative energy production by placing solar panels in this municipality.

The head of Elez Khan has also had good words for the company “Sharcem”, for which he said they contribute consistently to the community.

In terms of pollution complaints from this company, Ballage said that the level has been markedly reduced and that they constantly monitor the level of pollution, but that there is also close co-operation with “Sharcem”

This time, like any other municipality, in Han, Elez, the countrymen have come on summer vacation. Last month, there has been a meeting of the mayor with the diaspora, while concerts have also been organised.
