This year mostly the deaths of workers at the workplace, state approach criticised

18 is the number of job deaths in the workplace only this year, and most of them are from the construction sector. So has made it known, Private Sector Workers Union Chairman Yusuf Azemi. Azem said 2023 is the year with the largest number [...]

Azemi has said that the year 2023 is the year with the largest number of workers' deaths for seven months in Kosovo and that for this matter, the state is not doing enough.

As he put it, cases of death in the workplace occur throughout the world, but not as large as Kosovo. In addition, the victims' families receive no financial support from the state of “when the worker dies ends up all”.

According to Azem, this uncertainty at work is an additional reason why young people are leaving the country.

It's actually a bad issue that's happening to us over and over again and we as institutions are not doing what we have to do, I'm talking as a government, both inspectors and company owners”.

Unfortunately, this year is a very bad year because to this point we have 18 cases of job deaths and more serious than one of them who died two days ago was brother to seven sisters. This can happen anywhere in the world, but in so many numbers that it is happening in Kosovo it does not happen anywhere. In other countries, when these cases occur, the state has a stimulus, financial support for these families. To us, the moment the worker dies, he said, has completed everything”.

He said unions have made ongoing demands by power for this issue to be addressed.

And we've probably asked the finance minister and the prime minister to address this topic because it's a very serious topic when young workers lose their lives. In addition to what this is negatively impacting that even young people when they do not have a support and health job as much as the law tells them, this is also part of what people want to leave Kosovo”, he told EO.

Azemi said that the seventh month of 2023 is a record for the largest number of job deaths in the workplace.

“Absorbed parts are construction workers. This year is the year with the largest number of deaths. The year 2017 alone approaches approximately where in seven months so many workers have died, or this year is extremely bad”.

“We are not at the right level, this results because a large portion of qualified workers have released Kosovo, and these jobs are covering unqualified workers, workers who are not familiar with the risk of work, and unfortunately we are here where we are”, he said.
