Russian General Gennady Zhidko, 58, has been found dead this Wednesday. The news has been released by Russian media Readovka.
According to the Daily Mail, he is the man who led the Russian offensive for the invasion of Ukraine as commander of the South Group of Russian Forces, while in October last year he was dismissed and Sergei Argameddon Suroviki took his place.
The 58-year-old also served as Chief of Staff of the Russian Armed Forces in Syria in 2016 and in 2018 was appointed Commander of the East Military District.
General Zhidko was given the highest title “Hero of Russia”, while for a period of time he was also deputy defence minister in 2021.
Gennady Zahiko's death has also been confirmed by the governor of Khabarovsk region, Mikhail Degtycharev, but did not provide any more details.
