The upcoming meeting of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, will take place on September 14th, EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Josep Borrell announced at a news conference in Spain.
Kurti and Vuciq have last met on May 2nd nine days after extraordinary elections in northern Kosovo, which have been boycotted by local Serb populations. Since then, there have been a number of tensions and crises between the two countries.
On August 30th, the EU reiterated the call for both to create a climate for continuing dialogue.
The two countries, under the European Union's mediation, have been in talks on normalising relations since 2011. Although dozens of agreements have been reached in various fields, the implementation of most of them has stalled.
He has announced that along with the Spanish EU presidency, he will hold a joint conference at the level of Western Balkan foreign ministers to analyse the situation in the region. He added that this will be done along with other meetings to be held, such as the Berlin Process summit.
The issue of enlargement has been in our discussions. We have discussed Ukraine and expansion towards the Western Balkans. The process will remain applied to individual merits”, he has said, adding that the EU also needs to prepare for expansion.
The EU's High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security has made these comments at a news conference after the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Toledo, Spain.
