Capital police only on paper

Pristina police, though initially established five years ago, have not yet created this facility within the security institution. The latest case of murder at one of the locals in the capital, but other problems have increased the need to increase the number of police for the safety of citizens in Pristina. Director [...]

The director for Security and Municipal Emergency in Pristina, Lulzim Fushtica, has said that as an institution, they are willing to replace additional police teams to increase security. According to him, this will add to the citizens' co-operation with the capital police.

The capital's “Police will only be concentrated in the capital, and its mandate will be defined only in the capital. The existing structures that they are will focus on the capital and normally on increasing the number of police officers and establishing the directorate, normal to increase security in general. But, it must be taken into account that the establishment of this structure within the Kosovo Police will also increase co-operation not only with citizens, but also the co-operation and accountability of capital”, Fushtica said.

Fushtica urges Pristina citizens to co-operate with security institutions because, according to him, neither can police do their job unless there is co-operation between the two sides.

With the creation of this directorate, normal, which also increases the security perception, normal, that also increases security. However, we must stress that the capital is certain, that the image of the capital cannot be destroyed by one or two incidents, which have been high-scale incidents, but the capital is generally secure. We invite citizens to co-operate with the capital's institutions, the Kosovo Police, because neither the institutions nor the Kosovo Police can do their job unless there is co-operation with citizens”, Fushtica said.

That recent incidents of murders in Pristina's locals increase the need for increased police troops in the capital, says security expert Nuredin Ibishi. According to him, Kosovo Police must do the work on the basis of law for both the capital and the country's security in general.

“As the system of unified organisational structure, Kosovo acts as well here under the Kosovo Police Law, but it helps a lot by referring to specifics in the capital. For this reason, I think it should become such a police officer, but it should not be thought that now we attribute it to the mayor, but always referring to the action of unified work throughout the territory... so many countries of the region in the organisational sense, within the framework of the Kosovo Police, so the capital police that regulates the issue of traffic, order of public calm, and these that which we're referring to, the recent tragic events in Bon Vivant, many injuries and generally concerns of opinion. But, in reality, let's not rush to say that people everywhere are armed, carrying guns, but the police have to take action under law”, Ibishi says.

It requires citizens not to carry weapons with them because it creates possible concerns and consequences in the capital.

Citizens from Pristina also demand that the law be applied to the capital police, since they believe the capital needs special police necessary.

Citizens from the capital, Nundman Emini says citizens will feel safer getting out on the streets if there is a capital police.

Better then is its police that it is the capital, and it is known that 30% of the population -- all of Kosovo -- for them it would have been, certainly, if the control is greater and gives direct responsibility to the Pristina municipality. Citizens always make the biggest contribution to the police and should be co-operation always”, Amy said.

Likewise, Musli Purpudi from Pristina said police in the capital are necessary.

I am very sure that the special police, besides Kosovo, should be behind the capital... because there are many major problems in the capital. Youth to some extent are carrying weapons without permission in those night coffees are becoming many murders, various conflicts, different quarrels, it's necessary”, Purpudi added.

In 2018 the Law for the capital of the Republic of Kosovo was adopted in the Kosovo Assembly, where the establishment of the capital's police was envisioned. /Kosovopress
