Russian President Vladimir Putin is not personally participating in the BICS summit. But he wants to host the next summit himself. In his recorded speech at the meeting, Putin invited representatives of other member states to the Russian town of Kazan ' for October 2024.
There is not yet a specific date. In all, however, over 200 political, economic and social events are planned.
As you know, Putin did not personally attend the meeting. The International Criminal Court is demanding him with an arrest warrant for alleged war crimes in Ukraine. In Johannesburg, the head of the Kremlin, 70, was threatened with arrest.

A Quick End of War Required
The second day of the summit was also marked by the war against Ukraine. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva again called for a quick end to the war. The conflict has global implications that cannot be ignored, Lula said.
According to Lula, the group of key developing countries -- Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa -- is an important forum for discussing global security issues and peace. “We consider positive that a growing number of countries, including the BRUS countries, are in direct contact with Moscow and Kiev,”, Lula said.

Earlier this year, the Brazilian president promoted an international mediation initiative to solve the war in Ukraine.
Ramafoza for Negotiation
South Africa's President Cyril Ramafoza also called for resolving the war in Ukraine through negotiations. The “TCCS countries will support efforts to end this conflict through dialogue, mediation and negotiations,” said 70-year-old.

Ramafoza heads a peaceful African initiative to end the war. However, recent mediating efforts of the initiative in Moscow and Kiev have not had obvious success. Ukraine requires the withdrawal of Russian troops from its territory before the start of negotiations.
In February, Brazil voted in favour of a UN resolution, in which the world community again called on Putin to withdraw its troops with a large majority. South Africa abstained at that time. The summit lasts until Thursday. / DW
