A letter signed by 56 deputies from Europe and the US has been sent to Brussels, Washington and London on demand to have a balanced policy towards Kosovo and Serbia. On paper these powers are criticised for an animation to Belgrade.
The European Union for the Journal Express has confirmed that it has accepted the letter, but says they do not comment on Borrell's “dispute.
“As a general rule, we do not comment in public on the correspondence received by the High Representative from different conversationors. If the relevant actors write to the High Representative, he answers via relevant channels, we don't correspond to the media. This particular letter from 56 deputies from several EU member states and several other countries can confirm that the High Representative has just received”, EU spokesman Peter Stano has said.
Stano says EU foreign policy is unanimous, adding that the Union numbers thousands of MPs.
We remember that the EU has 27 member states with 27 parliaments and thousands of parliamentarians. The foreign policy and EU approaches to partners have been formed by 27 member states represented by their governments in unanimous. The EU is a neutral facilitator in dialogue for normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia”.
The EU says it praises the commitment of the parties to the dialogue based on their individual merits and reports to member states.
The EU added it has made demands on both sides to resolve current tensions and enable the normalisation process to continue.
Likewise, Stano said the European Union is monitoring Serbia if it is meeting the requirements and is willing to take measures if they fail.
“Member States consult on EU actions, and the EU co-operates closely with its partners, especially with the US. The EU is currently closely monitoring the fulfillment of EU requirements from Serbia and is willing to take measures in case of incompatibility with these” requirements.
Following the deployment of measures against Kosovo by the European Union and the United States due to tensions raised in the country's north, with the deployment of Albanian mayors in municipal objects added criticism of bias, since no punitive measures were taken against Serbia.
British MP Alicia Kearns, who was in line the most vocal of the case, has published the letter sent to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrell and British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly.
The current “is not working. We ask the international community to learn from our past and to make sure that we do not approve policies for the Balkans that appeal from Belgrade. We also ask them to consider the possibility of adopting a policy of preventive diplomacy to avoid further escalation of the security and political situation in northern Kosovo, with balance and proportion in any declaration and any punishment or sanctions that are undertaken, and for those who respect the rule of law and democracy not to be punished”, it was said among other things on paper. /gazetaexpress
