Over 6100 young people have applied to continue studies at the country's largest public university, Pristina's (UP) for the 2023/24 academic year. This number is for over 1800 less than the current academic year 2022/23. From the Rectorate of UP's say that the low number of students relates to the fact that even the number of seniors at the country has dropped, but do not rule out that the impact also has on young people leaving. UP will open supplementary competitions for 2700 countries at its schools.
From UP student organisations, they say the lack of jobs after graduation has led many young people to think about leaving without even the cycle of basic studies in Kosovo, while they weigh other reasons. However, University of Arts professor Besa Luza says that it is not necessary for youths to continue studying.
The Pristina reactor, through a written response to Kosova Prees, considers that because of the low number of applications at Pristina University faculty has also influenced “the internal and external movements of young people in Kosovo”.
Of these, the Rectorate of UP's shows what are the most required programmes for next academic year that will begin on 1 October.
While, Besa Luzha, professor at the Faculty of Arts at the Music Arts branch, says the Kosovo higher education market is in charge.
The faculty she teaches has not had numerous applications, but Luz says the music arts programmes themselves are very limited to numbers and do not accept many new students.
Luzha accepts for Kosova Prees that even conditions at the Art Page are not ideal and are constantly demanding that the Music Arts have a building on them.
Festim Tasholli from the student organisation “Student Democratic Union”, says of Kosovas that they have noticed that in many Pristina University faculties there is a decline in applications. He says migration may be the main reason, but there are also those who choose private colleges.
In addition to Pristina University, Kosovo numbers another 6 public universities, as well as dozens of other private ones. /kp
