About 16 mass graves, Serbia obstacles to beginning excavations

In Serbia there are somewhere up to 16 mass cemeteries, five of which have been confirmed, has said, the Gara Objection, by the Government Commission for the Undiscovered. He has added that they have applied for the start of Serbian side excavations, new locations, and some who say they do not consider it finished [...]

He even said that they have applied for several more countries but that he cannot make public.

The fact that there are up to 16 mass cemeteries, five confirmed so far, has been indicated by their official records. They have been addressed in the form of official requirements for the Serbian side to start digging into these locations, or to set dates to continue in the unfinished locations. Despite the fact that five mass cemeteries, including Batanica, Petrovoselen, Beruzha, would recently be told in Rudnica and Kizevac locations, locations like Batananica and Petrovoello remain unfinished locations for us. There are also a series of locations where it cannot be made public at the moment, but it can confirm that they are addressed in the form of officials for the Serbian side”.

To continue the excavations, he says, we need full co-ordination with international partners in order to pressure Serbia to start working.

He claims that in this direction, data from the archives of the former Yugoslav Army Defence Ministry and the Interior Ministry archives would be of great help to the former Serbian police over the war period.

“From the current experience, referring to these five mass cemeteries opened in Serbia's territory, confirms that in such cases, of course, we should and will continue to be in full co-ordination even with international partners since experience it has been confirmed that only a greater pressure of the international community towards the Serbian side, to institutions in Belgrade we can have more results in this process, whether in terms of providing information from their archives or even in the sense of allowing for evaluations in targeted or marketing locations on their territory.<>

“What is essential for this process to be noted in the disproportionate of this process data from their archives in particular from the archives of the former Yugoslav Army Defence Ministry and the archives of the Interior Ministry of the former Serbian Police for the wartime period. By July, even recent years have continued meeting at the level of experts, there has been no meaningful meeting of the delegation's heads, because Serbia has not yet reflected on Kosovo's prime minister's demands to make the necessary replacements in their structure, in this case, alluding to the current chairman of Serbia's commission due to his past”.

He calls Serbia's approach politicising, adding that for 24 years it has been dug into five cemeteries of which have been exhumed and repatriated to Kosovo the mortary remains or remains of more than a thousand victims, EO reports.

“At locations on Serbia's territory, but generally approach of Serbia's institutions towards this issue remains disturbing and challenging. I'm saying that their policy approach and this is certainly connected with the fact that the lack of dates are set to begin digging into their territory, their location now more marked, or to begin or continue digging into unfinished locations. So far on Serbia's territory during these 24 years, there have been five mass cemeteries confirmed, which have been exhumed and repatriated to Kosovo, or the remains of more than a thousand victims, mainly of ethnic Albanian affiliation, victims of war in Kosovo”.
