Turkey's President, Recep Tayip Erdogan, has agreed to back Sweden's bid to join NATO, military alliance chief Jens Stoltenberg said.
He said the Turkish leader will submit Sweden's request to parliament in Ankara and “ensure ratification”.
Meanwhile, Swedish Prime Minister Wolf Krittersson has said that “I am very happy, is a good day for Sweden”, the BBC writes.
Turkey had blocked Sweden's application, accusing it of hosting Kurdish militants.
As one of the 31 NATO members, Turkey has the right to veto any new country joining the group. /Periscopi/
