Thomas Szunyog will be EU chief in Kosovo for another year.
The decision has been made by EU High Representative Josep Borrell, to extend that mandate until August 31st, 2024, the European Council's report reportedly broadcast Express.
Tomákh Szunyog was appointed Special Representative for Kosovo on September 1, 2020. His mandate includes the task of providing EU advice and support in the political process and promoting the Union's overall political co-ordination in Kosovo.
Besides Szunyog, the European Council has adopted today a set of decisions on extending the existing mandates of both EU special representatives for a year.
Johann Sattler in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Toivo Klaar was named for the South Caucasus.
EU special representatives are nominated by the High Representative to promote EU policies and interests in specific regions and countries and to ensure the EU an active political presence in those areas.
Currently, the ten special representatives support the work of the Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell. These include the three special representatives mentioned above, as well as the one for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and other regional issues of the Western Balkans, as well as others.
