Among the thousands killed during the war in Kosovo are the Bytyqi brothers, three Albanians from Prizren with American citizenship who were killed in July 1999 in Serbia.
Although 24 years have passed since their murder, no one has been convicted of this crime to this day.
Thus, the American Embassy in Belgrade, at this anniversary of their murder, has sought responsibility from the state of Serbia.
The “has spent 24 years since American citizens Ilir, Mehmet and Agron Bytyqi were executed until they were detained by Serbian special police. Every year that passes without being held responsible for this brutal war crime is an insult to rule of law”.
The United States again calls on Serbia to fully investigate this case and bring to justice those who committed and covered these murders. We will continue this call until the establishment of justice”, reportedly in the US Embassy's post in Belgrade on Twitter, Klakosova.tv reports.
The Bytyqi family, in 2021, had called on the American president's administration, Joe Biden, to engage seriously in whitewashing the murder case of the Bytyqi brothers in Serbia in 1999.
“So far, we are deeply disappointed that the administration has not taken more serious steps when there could be so many”, said a communique of the Bytyqi family.
Agron, Mehmet and Yll Bytyqi, American nationals of origin from Kosovo, were arrested in 1999 in Serbia because of, as Serbian officials have said, illegal border crossing.
They were released from prison after being convicted and then killed. Their troops were found in a mass grave near Petrovo Selos in eastern Serbia in 2001.
“We call on President Beden's administration to start a serious commitment to this issue before it is too late. President Biden gave a promise to our brothers, our family, and our community. We hope his administration will soon fulfil that pledge”, the Bytyqi family statement said.
It emphasises that Serbia's President, Aleksandar Vuciq and the Government of Serbia, have consistently shown that they are an unreliable actor in this case “por, State Department officials refuse to accept this fact”.
The Serbian Interior Ministry terror base in Petrovo Selo, that world was under the command of Goran Radosavlevki-Guri.
About two years ago, Serbia honoured the same with a medal of gratitude.
Radosavlevic is on the US list of sanctions after allegedly involved in killing the Bytyqi brothers.
The American Embassy in Serbia had said that the world that Radosavlevqi “should face justice and should not take a medal”.
On July 7th 2021, the War Crimes Prosecutor in Serbia had said he was collecting new evidence in order to define the identity of “the authors of the Bytyqi brothers' murder in 1999.
