The United States has imposed sanctions on the Serbian presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina member Zelka Cvianovic, and other senior officials from Republika Srpska, due to the minimation of the Peace Agreement reached in Dayton in 1995.
The US Treasury Department's list of sanctions has included Republika Srpska Parliamentary Speaker Nenad Stevsa, the prime minister of this entity, Radovan Viskovic, and Republika Srpska Justice Minister Milos Bukejlovovic.
The treasury said sanctioned officials are directly responsible for encouraging the adoption of decisions by the National Assembly of the entity of Republika Srpska to declare Bosnian Constitutional Court decisions as invalid in this entity. With this move, according to the US, they have threatened to implement the Dayton Agreement.
“These actions threaten the stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the peace won could be supported by the Dayton Agreement. This behaviour further threatens the trajectory of the state's future and successful integration into Euro-Atlantic institutions”, said Treasury Secretary for Terrorism and Intelligence Financing Brian E.Nelson.
“We will continue to support the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina in their efforts to rule the law and make sure peace and prosperity prevail”, he added.
