The Mi-8-type helicopter in the Altai Republic of southern Siberia caught fire as it landed and crashed into an electric line, the Russian Emergency Ministry's branch in Altai said. This office published a statement on the Internet that saw a picture of helicopter remains set on fire.
Russian state news agency RIA Novosti reported, citing the country's civil aviation regulator, that the helicopter belonged to a private company and was transporting a group of tourists.
The total number of people on that helicopter are not yet known exactly before the accident occurred.
According to RIA Novosti, there were a total of 12 passengers and three crew members on board, but the Emergency Ministry said the total number on board was 13.
The AP news agency has failed to verify the number of passengers.
Mi-8 is a two-cycle helicopter that was designed in the 1960s. It has been widely used in Russia, where confrontations have been frequent, in neighboring countries, and in many other lands.
