Losing millions of property tax losses, municipalities demand compensation

The Kosovo Communists association (AKK) estimates that with the Law on Real Property Tax, with which citizens received bills of up to 100 euros for 2023, tens of millions of euros are lost, so it requires the Government of Kosovo to compensate. The municipalities are also now awaiting positive answers from the government [...]
The Assembly on July 27th has approved the amendment of the new real estate tax law, which envisions the possibility of profiting from the write-off of bills of 2023 to 100 euros, tax releases for primary residence and agricultural land, restrictions on interest estimates not to exceed the value of tax duty, lower tax rates for 2024, and the start of a progressive tax application from 2025.
The executive director of the Kosovo Commission Association, Saban Ibrahimi, has said of Kosovas, that the adoption of the Law on Property Tax will cost millions of euros in municipalities and that they expect compensation as soon as possible.
Ibrahimi declared that the government adopted this law without consulting Kosovo municipalities, which says it never happened with past governments.
Abraham also spoke of a failure to discuss means to compensate for the damage from the rains of January month, where he mentioned millions of euros in damages in various municipalities.
According to him, the municipalities in record time have met the legal requirements, but those requirements remain pending at the central level.
Abraham also spoke of business injuries in the absence of running tools.
Ibrahim had another request for Government, which is the drafting of the fourth grant, because according to him, it is estimated that over 100m euros will go directly to municipalities.
Ibrahim has also expressed dissatisfaction with the Law's adoption of local self-government, which he claims the Government has not even this time communicated with municipalities about the amendment of such a law.
