Italian Ambassador: EU Measures Against Kosovo Returnable

If after presenting the draft Association on the part of Kosovo, Serbia does not meet the commitments it has undertaken, then the European Union will take measures towards it as well. Thus stated Italian Ambassador to Kosovo Antonello De Riu, in which the measures taken against the Kosovo side from the EU are returnable.
These measures have been made to encourage both governments to overturn their commitments. The Kosovo Government's commitment has been to present as soon as possible a statute of Serb majority municipalities, which has not been done by the Government of Kosovo. At the moment when Kosovo fulfils its commitment and presents a statute for the Association of Serb Major Communities, Serbia will not meet its commitments, which it has undertaken, then analog measures will be made for Serbia in the same way by the European Union”, Italian Ambassador Antonello De Riu has said.
Italian diplomat stressed that all laws of a country must be respected, but on some issues political decisions must be made to move forward. De Riu reaffirmed Kosovo's demand to reduce tensions so that factors that could cause deterioration in the north can be avoided.
“Dialogue Kosovo- Serbia is the paradigm what happens in the Balkans. Some principled issues sometimes become issues that are not important to the lives of people living in these lands. If there had been people who were more concrete, more rational in their decisions, we had not come to this point, and the issues would have been resolved much faster. When I talk about pragmatism, I'm not talking about disrespecting the constitutionality of a country, but we're talking about political decisions that would only benefit the population living here. All laws of a country must be respected, but political decisions must be made on certain issues that are not as basic as they appear to be, and from these we move away and benefit the population”, Italian Ambassador Antonello De Riu has said.
These statements he made after a visit to Kosovo Radio Television, with what cases he was received by director General Shkumbin Ahmetxekaj. During the meeting, he discussed the possibilities for co-operation between RTK and the Italian Embassy in Kosovo.
Italian Ambassador accompanied by the mission's deputy chief, Ugo Ferrero, pledged concrete support for RTK, with the delivery of various program content, which is expected to be formalised in the coming weeks.
