Ilir Peci sees no option for resignation

Peci, in a proposal for Klankosova.tv, has declared that all the directors have begun working, while adding that it is serving citizens indiscriminately.

We are currently continuing to hold the mandate by serving citizens indiscriminately. For example, an agreement was reached yesterday with the Drenas municipality for intercommunal co-operation”, Peci said.

“We have 11 directors, each director has started his job so we have a lot of work to do, so he resigned that we see as option”, Peci told Klakosova.tv.

He added that jobs are going smoothly as he argued that members of the Serb community are also involved.

Meanwhile, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has recently said that elections in four municipalities in Kosovo's north cannot be held without the situation being postponed in that area. But, he added, Kosovo is conducting preparations for early elections in these four municipalities.

On 11 July, the European Union confirmed that Kosovo would support holding new elections in four northern municipalities, as part of actions to defuse the situation.

While, Local Power Management Minister Elbert Krasniqi has said early elections could be held if 20 per cent of voters in a municipality sign a petition for the removal of the mayor.

This petition, according to Krasniqi, would then be sent to the Central Election Commission (KQZ), which would verify it and then launch a referendum on whether the chairman should be fired.

However, the EU has said it prefers the resignation of mayors in northern municipalities so that extraordinary elections can be held as soon as possible.
