The disagreements between prime ministers Kurti and Rama culminated on July 6th, when Albin Kurti refused to meet Rama in Pristina. Now Kurti did not even go to Tirana at the meeting invited by Rama.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti did not participate in the informal meeting of Western Balkan leaders, which is held on Monday's 1707th in Tirana. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has invited this meeting. Kosovo government spokesman Progress Kryeziu said Prime Minister Kurti has other commitments.
“Prime Minister Kurti has announced Prime Minister Rama who cannot go this time since months ago he has confirmed attending a conference in Greece's Crete, where the panel for the Western Balkans is exactly on the same day and at the same time”, Kryeziu announced.
Kurt only missed.
The non-formal meeting in Albania of leaders of the Western Balkans is organised by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, under preparations for the Berlin Process summit, which will be held in Tirana on 16 October. And for that summit, the Kosovo government confirms that Prime Minister Kurti will participate.
At the informal meeting in Tirana, all prime ministers of other countries in the region will be participating, Montenegro's incumbent Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic, Northern Macedonia Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski, the head of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjana Christo, and Serbia's Prime Minister, Ana Brnabiq.
Albania this year heads the Berlin Process and Monday's informal meeting in Tirana, where European Union for Neighborship and Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Warheyli will also participate, aimed at discussing and co-ordinating, to draft joint requirements.
All these demands will then, leaders of the Western Balkans, be presented at the Berlin summit. The Berlin Summit, or as the initiative for the Berlin process is known, was initiated by then German Chancellor Angela Merkel, with the aim of connecting and integrating Western Balkan countries before joining the European Union. The Berlin Process serves as a platform for the co-operation of Balkan countries, such as Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, Northern Macedonia and Serbia. EU institutions are also involved in this process.
