Changes the diaspora would like to see in Kosovo

“Many things I would like to change in Kosovo, but would set aside the removal of the waste”, Pristina's Free Europe free Europe, which now 33 years old lives in Sweden, says Radio Free Europe.

Password is not on the level. These garbage containers, they get in the ground somehow. This needs to be changed, and this can be done easily with the greatest commitment of institutions”, says Sherigoiu, who visits Kosovo up to three times a year.

He and dozens of other Kosovars from the diaspora visited Kosovo's Parliament facilities on Monday and were received by several MPs.

The traditional event, known as the “Baskatters in the Parliament”, lasts two days.

Hysni Makovci, who visited the Parliament along with his son, says “ser is killed by the numerous constructions in Kosovo”.

It's better to invest in health. There should be health insurance, as we do in Germany”, Hyshua says.

He migrated to Germany during wartime in 1999. His native Pristina visits him up to four times a year.

Hysniu says it must also work towards wage increases in Kosovo, where the average behaves around 520 euros per month.

I have sisters here and my mother and I have to help them. I send money every month. Even for me, it's hard to deal with those tools I send to Kosovo, but we work hard and we get to do it”, he says.

The Kosovo diaspora is mainly concentrated in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and other European countries.

According to data from the Kosovo Statistics Agency, the number of Kosovo citizens living abroad by the end of 2018 has been over 850,000.

Their visits to Kosovo are most during the summer.

According to Central Bank of Kosovo data, diaspora spending in Kosovo in 2022, whether in hotels, restaurants or local businesses, have seized the value of about 1.9 billion euros.

The diaspora sends significant amounts of money even in the form of remittances whose value last year has reached 1.2 billion euros.

Kosovo's Parliament also visited Albion Krasniqi, from the municipality of Kline, who lives and studies in Italy on Monday.

He intends one day to return to Kosovo. He says he would like the <x0 laws adopted in Kosovo to be implemented”, as well as given more space to young people.

I think that every young person who lives there, in Italy, has a lot of skills that can develop here and can contribute more here than in Italy”, Albion says.

Fatmir Bytyci has been with his family for weeks in Kosovo. From Prizren, he emigrated to Germany in 1992.

For Fatmir, education is the area to invest mostly in Kosovo.

“Political subjects do not know the problems of education... A problem you don't understand, you can't even solve. I think education is very weak in Kosovo”, he tells Radio Free Europe.

According to the Central Bank of Kosovo, the diaspora also takes first place in terms of foreign investments in the country, mainly in real estate. Builders confirm that up to 70 percent of buyers are from the diaspora.
