Czech Republic President Petr Pavel has named Bhumil Mazanek ambassador to Kosovo, with the government's proposal.
The Czech Foreign Affairs Ministry clarified to Radio Free Europe that until now, at the head of the diplomatic mission, it was “the charge d'afroquent”, and now the ambassador has been appointed.
Former Prime Minister Mirko Topolanek's government recognised Kosovo's independence in its 2008 declaration.
Until the Czech state's stance on independence has never changed, the past two Czech presidents -- Vaclav Klaus and Milos Zaman -- had not appointed Czech ambassador to Kosovo, even the latter had proposed withdrawing recognition.
Petr Pavel, former Czech Army chief and senior official of NATO launched its five-year mandate in the post of Czech Republic president on 9 March.
The appointed ambassador, Mazanek, is one of the Czech diplomats with diplomas from Moscow's State Institute for International Relations, and has so far been ambassador to Lithuania, the charger in Thailand and general consul in China and Poland. / REL
