Several US allies have expressed concern over Washington's decision to supply Ukraine with devastating bombs.
On Friday, the US confirmed it was sending controversial weapons to Ukraine, with President Joe Biden calling it a very difficult “decision”.
In response, Great Britain, Canada, New Zealand, and Spain said they opposed the use of weapons.
Crushing bombs have been banned from more than 100 countries because of the danger they pose to civilians.
They usually release many smaller bombs that can kill indiscriminately in a large area.
Municions have also caused controversy over the extent of their failure. Unbroken bombs can stay on earth for years and then explode indiscriminately.
Beden told CNN in an interview Friday that he had spoken with allies of the decision, which was part of a military aid package worth 800m dollars.
The president said he needed a time to be convinced to do this”, but he had acted because “kraines are running out of ammunition”.
The decision was quickly criticised by human rights groups, with Amnesty International saying that crushed ammunition poses a major threat to civilian life, even long after the conflict has ended”, the BBC writes.
